What kind of paper do you need for Pornogami?

The answer to this question is almost any type of paper provided that it is square and even then there are Origami models made from rectangular, triangular or circular paper.

Most of the paper sold on this site can be used for many types of origami models. Generally speaking the paper is thinner than normal A4 ‘Office’ paper which is around 80gsm. Most of the paper on this site is between 60 and 70 gsm with the exception of the embossed papers.

This type of paper is useful for many projects however Origami models can be folded from any type of paper that will hold a crease and many more experienced folders will look for a type of paper that will suit the model that is being made and that could even be newspaper or plain brown Kraft paper.

What do I need to know to do pornogami?

If you were to attend a traditional art school, you would spend a year or two learning to draw before you touched paper. Just like learning a new language, many teachers believe in learning the basics of perspective and folding first. There is value in this approach.

All you need is the desire to create and the discipline to practice and develop your technique. You’ll make plenty of mistakes, but that’s part of the learning process. Ultimately, the creation of art is what’s important, not the road you take to get there.

Don’t your hands cramp when you fold?

I’m happy to say the answer is no. It can happen if one holds a tool too tightly and/or works for a long time without pause. Let’s face it, any type of repetitive motion can lead to injury. Consciously keep a relaxed grip on the paper and stretch your hands and fingers occasionally. You might want to tape padding around the handle for comfort.

What tools do I need to get started in paper folding?

The main tool most beginners start with is a set of folding paper. It is also a good idea to use a hard board so that your folds are a consistent size. You will also need craft glue.
